In Short Supply
Short seed supplies of Forkedeer oats, a popular variety recommended west of the Blue Ridge and in Piedmont Virginia, are reported this year.
Ed Shulckum, assistant agronomist at Virginia Agricultural Ex. periment Station, says farmers who can’t ,find Forkedeer on the market can switch to Lee Cold Proof or Atlantic and expect good results.
A severe winter kill and high.' demand are largely responsible for the shortage of Forkedeer.
The variety Arlington can be used in low elevations, and in 'Piedmont and Eastern Virginia. Letoria is also on the recommended list for Piedmont, and Stanton in Eastern Virginia.
Barley varieties recommended are: Wong, Kentucky No. 1 and Jackson No. 1 west of the Blue Ridge; and Wong, Calhoun, and Kentucky No. 1 in Piedmont and Eastern Virginia. *
Wheat varieties recommended are: Vahart, Thorne, Leaps Prolific, VPI 1*1, and Nittany, west of the Blais Ridgef Vahart, Thorne Leaps Prolific, and Nittany, in Piedmont; Atlas 50, and Atlas 00, in Piodniont south of James River; Vahart, Thorne, Atlas 00, Atlas 00, and Nittany in Eastern Virginia.
