Twenty-seven states hgd a higher percentage of income payments paid out in state taxes than Virginia, two other states had the same percentage as Virginia, and eighteen states hadi a lower percentage than Virginia. Collections ranged from a low of 2.2% in New Jersey to a high of 9.'3% in Louisiana. If all states . were listed in order from low to high, on the basis of collections as a percentage of income payments, Virginia would tie with Idaho and Michigan 4s the nineteenth lowest state.
