Attackers Escape After
Injuring Jeremiah Atkins
Jeremiah Atkins, who runs a store and filling station on Route £11, going into Warrenton, was approached by two strange men on August 22 at his place of business near Amissville. The men tried to force Mr. Atkins into driving them in his pick-up truck iidto t#»e town (of Washington. When he refused, he was badly beaten by the men who also drew a knife on iMr. Atkins. In the struggle, as Atkins tried to take the knife from the men, he received a badly cut finger.
Hearing someone approaching the store, the men ran out the back entrance, leaving no trace. Blood hounds were called and they could track the men as far as the woods and there it ended. So far, there has been no identification of the strangers.

Mrs. Alberta Fishback Weaver died September 2 at Winchester hospital.
Funeral servces were held Tuesday afternoon, September 4, from Mt. Lebanon Baptist church, with ReV. Feltton Carter conducting. Pallbearers included Osie Clore, Ernest Fishback, Ashby Fishback, Jose Fishback, Raymond Fishback, Jesse Fishback, Newton Blankenbaker, and Eddie Dulin.
Mrs. Weaver is survived by five daughters and three sons: Mrs. Lizzie Huffman of Orange, Mrs. A. B. Honts of Front Royal, Mrs. Jessie Hawkins, Mrs. Cary Thornhill, and Mrs. George Butler, all of'Boston; Stant Weaver of Washington, S. B. Weaver of Remington, and Fred A. Weaver of Winston Salem, N.C. Two step-dapghters live in Clarksburg, W. Va.
