The Junior Beef Heifer Show held at Dolmont last Saturday was considered a success in spite of the wretched weather. One hundred per cent of the entries were ‘ on hand for the show, which, of course, can’t be improved upon. Hugh Henderson, livestock specialist of VPI Extension Service, judged while Sam Spangler of the Virginia Angus Association presented the ribbons. Unfortunately, prizes did not arrive in time foy the show; however, they are expected to be in the hands of the winners any time now.
Winners and awards were as follows : ' CLASS I. It was considered each of the following boys had done a good job of growing out his heifer and was awarded a credit certificate by the breeder on the purchase price of his heifer at 6Vi cents per pound of the purchase weight, thereby reducing the cost by an approximate average of $28.00 a head: Archie Bailey, Jr., Richard Griffith, J. T. Dwyer, and Melvin Williams. Breeders making these awards were: J. R. Brown, J. M. O'Bannon, J. W. Fletcher, and J. E. Yates.
CLASS II. “Beauty,” owned by Archie Bailey, Jr., bred by J. E. Yates; prizes: show halter, curry comb, rice brush, dressing comb, and feed tub. 2nd—“Blackie,”' owned by J. T. Dwyer, bred by J. M. O’Bannon; prizes: show halter, feed tub, and dressing comb. 3rd—“Beauty,” owned by Richard Griffith, bred by f. W. Fletcher- priles; stow halier and curry Comb. 4th—No entry, as Melvin Williams failed to break his heifer to lead.
