Mrs. Joy Luke, a professional artist, plans to hold art classes in Rappahannock County during the summer months. She will organize the classes within the next two weeks. Mrs. Luke, with her family divides her time between their country home near Sperryville and their home in Hillcrest Heights, Md. The family is her husband, Lt. Col. Ernest P. Luke, USAF and two sons, Peter, a student at Culver Military Academy and Kim, a student at Benjamin Stoddard Junior High School. Ms Luke is with the Areospace Research in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Luke studied under Joe Summerfield and Robert Gates at American University. She has exhibited in numerous shows in the metropoltian area. She received her initial training at Newman’s Art School, Orlando, Fla. At the age of 16 she did commercial art illustrating children's music books. Foregoing her senior year In high school* she accepted a special scholarship awarded by Rollins College. Later she transferred to SMU and continued her studies in art. She is the daughter of Leslie Turner, creator of the comic strip “Captain Easy", who formerly ran an art school in Texas. Additional information about the proposed art class will be announced in the next edition of the paper.
