June 14 has been set as the opening day of the Slate Mills Baptist Church Vacation Bible School. Plans are made for five age groups, each having one teacher and one helper. Mrs. Dott Bryan, wife of the pastor, will be the superintendent.
Plans are being made to take the Bible School students on a trip to the Washington Zoo in Rock Creek Park some time during the week. All those who would like to attend the school and. need transportation may notify Mra Lanell Wilbur or Mrs. Iris Brooke, 825-4187 giving name of the child and where he lives.
Certificates Given
Thirty at S.E.S.
Thirty seventh grade students received certificates at commencement exercises held last night at Sperryville Elementary School. The program opened with the processional of graduates followed by the class and chorus singing “Fairest Lord Jesus”. Linda Jenk ins and Terry Russell led the devotions. Warren Lee Smith made an address of welcome. The theme of the program was “Tickets for Tomorrow” and ' taking part in this were Joey Durden, Susan Dodson, Mary Elizabeth Jenkins, Amy Palmer, Sandra Payne and Judy Burke. Certificates were awarded by Dr. Samuel D. Hill and Me Irvin R. Kilby, chairman of the local school board. Terry Russell sang a solo and special music was heard by Amy Palmer at the piano. Mr. H. B. Winfrey, principal of the county high school, made a short talk to the student. This was followed by the benediction given by the Rev. B. Gale Titehenell, then the recessional.
