All members of the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors were present for the February meeting of the Boprd on Friday the 4th at which time county schools consumed much of the discussion and time.
To meet approval of the department of Health, Education and Welfare and receive federal funds additional school facilities are needed here. The Board has been considering two proposed building plans to take care of all elementary children of the county. One plan is for a 30 room school to be constructed on the land recently purchased on U. S. 211 west of Washington. The other plan is for the construction of a 14 room building at this location for part of the elementary pupils and to continue using the Sperryville and Washington elementary schools now in operation.
After much discussion of the issue, L. H. Luttrellmade a motion authorizing the School Board to apply for a loan from the Literary Fund of $783,140 for the purpose of building a 30-room school on land recently purchased near Flat Wood on U. S. Route 211, subject to approval of preliminary plans by the Board of Supervisors. Seconding the motion was E. M. Estes.
Voting on the issue was tied with Mr. Luttrell, Mrs. Estes and Herbert Foster for and H. B. Wood, A. H. Buckner and J. Newbill Miller voting against. Tiebreaker J. W. Fletcher cast an affirmative
