Mead National Recreation Area (Ariz.-Nev.) early in 1956, and after his service on the Blue Ridge Parkway was transferred to YellowstoneNa tional Park where he was assigned to supervisory ranger activities before being promoted to his Death Valley position. Burgen attended three California co11eges-P1 acer , Shasta, and Humboldt State, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the last in 1956. His Park Service career has given him considerable experience in law enforcement and forest fire suppression.
Burgen and his wife, Imogene have two daughter^, Signe (8) and Maren (5). They will reside in the housing area near Park Headquarters east of Luray.
