Winter Project
Now that major hunting seasons have ended the Virginia Game Commission suggests that, instead of putting that favored gun in the rack for another year, sportsmen orjganize a hunter safety course for young people in their comjmunity. During the winter lull 'between the end of late hunting {seasons and the start of spring fishing sportsmen generally have more time to devote tc such projects. The Virginia-National Rifle Association Hunter Safety course may be conducted by any qualified hunter safety instructor. The Game Commission stands ready to assist it obtaining or training qualifiee instructors. The Commissioi is also prepared to offer planning assistance and provide course materials for a nominal fee of 30(5 per student The Virginia-NRA course requires a minimum of 4 houre instruction. This time may be easily extended, especially when local sponsoring groupe also have facilities for fielc instruction and range firing Local junior or senior higl schools have proven well suited as locations for huntei safety courses and may ever be used for firing with portable backstops properly setup to insure safety.
