All Virginia farm operators should seriously consider the value of using the measurement service offered by the. Agricultural Stabilization and" Conservation Service, Chairman H. S. Barksdale, of the county ASC committee advises.
It will pay more often than not, he declared. This measurement service is offered on feed grain, whea; diverted and conserving acres It enables a farmer to know in advance of planting time the exact acreage he must seed or divert from any crop to be in program compliance. It also enables him to plant his full permitted acreage without exceeding such acreage and avoids a loss of seed, fertilizer and the payment of a fee to witness disposition of the excess. This year the ASCS measurement looms more important to the farmer than ever, Mr. Barksdale pointed out. The reason, he explained, is
that 69 of Virginians 99 agricultural counties this year will be determining acreage compliance by certification. Under this method the ASCS office will provide each operator with a photocopy of an aerial photograph to assist him in identifying and reporting the acreage of each crop grown. But; Mr, Barkadale said a farmer should be sure he is making a correct report because there is no chance to adjust his acreage after an acreage certification report has been filed. Therefore, the chairman said that paying a small fee for advance measurement service may be a wise investment in many cases. In Rappahannock County photo-copies are available on farms with wheat allotments and feed grain bases.
