The day of the Rappahannock Point-to-point Races is approaching rapidly, and the entries are coming in at a steady pace. Once again, this day'will prove to be exciting and full of tension as horses hurdle over the timber on James W. Fletcher’s Thornton Hill Farm, two miles south of Sperryville on Route 522. The first race will begin at 12;30 p.m. and is the Pair Race. This is for a team of two members of a recognized hunt, and horses regularly hunted during the current season. The course is three miles over natural terrain. Both members of the winning team will receive a trophy which will be donated by the Hon. George S. Aldhizer and Mr. and Mrs. J. Hugh Ryan, Jr. The W. A. Laing Memorial is for juniors under eighteen years and will begin at 1;00 p.m. This race Is 1/2 mile on the flat. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Laing will donate the trophy to the winner. The third race is the Double Gate Turf, which is for ladies and gentlemen, is 3/4 mile over hunting terrain. The horses must be ownedandfairly hunted prior to January 1st.
