Rappahannock county has one of the finest public libraries in all rural Virginia. Since its establishment five years ago, it has maintained steady growth through the re lentless efforts of devoted Volunteer members. The several thousand books on the shelves are excellent and cover a wide range of subjects. The Library has been established and financed through individual and group contributions and has never received a penny from state or federal funds. The county gov ernment has, however, includ ed an allotment in the budget for several years for the Li-1 brgry.
The Library is housed in an old, but charming brick building on Cay Street in Washington, Va. The building, forme*1ly a Presbyterian Church, was renovatdd to meet the needs of a Library. A drive for operating funds for the Library has been com pleted under the skillful man agement of T. J. Pillar of Sperryville who headed the finance committee. Many individuals gave generously to the fund and all contributions were accompanied with the sin cere wish that the Library prosper and become an even greater service to the people
