A fire, which a ppa r en t ly started from a faulty flue in the attic of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Berry near Amissville, leveled the house and burned all furnishings and clothing of the family. The blaze was discovered shortly after noon and spurred by the gale winds devoured the building in a half hour. Mrs. Berry said the few pieces of furniture and clothes which they managed to grab before fleeing, were destroyed when the winds whipped in from another direction and burned the articles in the yard. The only thing of any consequence saved was a freezer full of food. They had butchered five hogs the week before. Sparks sailed into the grass field adjoining the yard and across the road intograssand trees and ignited them numerous times. Fire companies from Amissville, Warrenton and Culpeper pitched battle against the raging blaze but were no match for the fire which quickly consumed the frame structure. They did, however, prevent the fields and woods from burning to a great degree. Many friends and neighbors have aided the family’s plight and are collecting things for them.
