If you're the type of young man that books turn off, but working with your hands turns on—peirhaps you should become an apprentice. There are many opportunities for the high school graduate who plans to enter a skilled industrial trade, said L. G. Duenk of the vocational industrial education department at Virginia Tech. In the U S. tqday there are about 350 occupations which use the apprenticeship method of training. Included are carpenters, electricians, printers, upholsterers, tailors, painters, machinists and heavy equipment operators. To enter an apprenticeship, an applicant must first pass written or oral examinations which may cover mechanical aptitude as well as a knowledge of mathematics, English and science.
