Local residents who are in the $7,500 income category will be deducting about $1,590 this year if they conform to the average for that income. Those in the $10,000 class will have deductions totaling $1,980. The studies indicate that the biggest deductions among people in the lower income groups are for local taxes and for interest paid. These items appear in most other returns, ! as well. However, deductions for, contributions and medical ex-! penses rise rapidly as income: goes up. A breakdown of the $1,300 of deductions listed by tax-! payers with incomes equal to the Rappahannock County average shows that $200 of it is for contributions, $420 is for payment of interest on loans and on installment debt, $370 is for local taxes and $310 for medical costs. These are purely guideline figures, it is emphasi7.ed. The Internal Revenue Service will not automatically approve deductions because they are average. There must be proper records to support them.
