A check with the local Co-Op will help you decide which are the best producers in this area. Planting time should be determined with time of maturity in mind. It is desirable that the seed mature as late as possible since this program is intended to provide food through the winter. Annual mix should be planted in May or early June. Your seed sales man can advise you about individual mixtures. Don’t be too quick to burn or bush-hog the rough looking places this spring unless they are needed for agriculture. Those spots may be just the right place for a quail nest. Bobwhite is universally loved. Be you a hunter or a plain bird lover, there is nothing quite like the sight of a family of quail crossing the road or browsing in a field or garden. The knowledge that you have helped this wonderful little bird, will give you a grand feeling of satisfaction. Right now is the time to start thinking about helping Bobwhite and then do something about it. Prepare the ground, make arrangements for seed.
