Signup Progresses
As of Monday, 43 farms in Rappahannock County had been signed with the county ASCS office to place 945' acres of allotment and base crops in the 1968 programs designed to reduce surpluses and strength en farm prices of corn, grain sorghum, and wheat. As an incentive to reduce acreages, farmers are guaranteed price support t through loans on their production. They are also assured of payments, called pricesupport payments, on acreages planted to these crops if they have signed to comply with respective program provisions. Such payments are intended to supplement income to farmers who voluntarily cooperate in reducing acreages of crops named by USDA as in a surplus position. The signup of farmers under the acreage diversion programs will continue through March 15.
