Taxpayers in Rappahannock County who arc in the throes of preparing their Federal income tax returns can now determine how closely their personal deductions compare with the averages. Are their gifts to charity greater or smaller than those made hy most people in their incomc bracket? How do their deductions for medical expenses and local taxes compa re ? Helpful information along these lines comes from the Commerce Clearing House, National authority on taxes and business law, using data compiled by the Internal Revenue Service. It has released a breakdown, based on tax reports of previous years, showing just how much the average taxpayer in each income class deductsfor contributions, interest costs, taxes and medical expenses. The figures show that among families who have earnings equal to the aver age prevailing in Rappahannock County, a total of $1,300, amounting to 21.2 percent of gr oss income, is generally deducted. For families with lower earn ings, the amounts that are deducted represent a larger' proportion of their income.

Red Cross Month
March is Red Cross Month and with it goes the annual drive for funds on which this great organization depends to carry out its many services. Flans for the fund campaign are being formulated in Rappahannock with Mrs. T. C. l.ea, Jr. as chairman. Rappahannock is affiliated with the Fauquier Chapter American National Red Cross which serves both counties. The quota for funds from this area will be larger than usual with $19,660 set as the goal.
