Bird Census
Seventy species of birds were recorded on the annual Shenandoah National Park Christmas Bird Count. Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins explained that this was three species more than was recorded on last year’s count. Twenty persons, including Park employees and friends, participated in the all-day count on December 27. Snow flurries fell on some of the groups in the morning, but the afternoon was clear, windy, and cold. The count took place within a circle, 15 miles in diameter, with the center at Hershberger Hill.
