Rep. Robinson Favors
“Right to Work”
Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson is among Congressional sponsors of a bill to insure freedom of choice for federal employees in joining, or refraining from joining, labor organizations. The bill, similar to “right-to~ work” laws, is designed to bar agreements between the federal government and labor unions which might require federal workers covered by an agreement to join a union as a condition of continued employment. Such a prohibition was included in the Postal Reorganization Act last year, and the bill of which the 7th District Congressman is a sponsor would extend the protection to all federal civilian employees. The measure would not limit federal workers’ right to join unions, except in the case of an orgapizatjon(.asserting a right to strike agaipst the government advocating “overthrow of the constitutional, form of governs ment”, or which “discriminates with regard to the terms or conn ditions of membership because of race, color, creed or national origin.” The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Post Office and Civil Service.
