Leave of Absence
Mrs. Gladys Lewis Harris, Executive Director of the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association of Northern Virginia, is taking an 18 months leave of absence to work on a special project with the Environmental Protection Agency in the Alexandria area, effective February 22. Mrs. E. Wilson Morrison will be Acting Executive Director when Mrs. Harris leaves.
In the administrative office, located in Crystal City, Mrs. Harris will be working in the Public Careers Program to train disadvantaged persons in waste water treatment facilities.
For the past 18 years, Mrs. Harris has been with the Tuberculosis Association, first as head of the Warren County chapter which in 1963 became a part of the area association and includes the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Loqdoun, Page, Rappahannock and Shenandoah.
Married to Claude B. Harris of Alexandria, Mrs. Harris was the recipient of the American Motor’s Conservation Awacd for outstanding volunteer service last year. Also in 1970 she received a Commendation for community service from President Nixon.
Listed in Who’s Who of American Women, Mrs. Harris received the National Award as “Representative of the best in this field” for the Virginia Tuberculosis Association in 1962. She has served as President of the Virginia Conference of TB Workers and is a member of the National Conference of Respiratory Workers.
