The 1971 edition of one of /irginia’s most popular mblications - the official state lighway map - is off the press and >eing distributed. One and a half million copies lave been printed, and will be iistributed by the State Department of Highways - which prepared the map - and by the Virginia State Travel Service and other travel organizations, and through highway information stations and rest areas. The Chesapeake Bay BridgeTunnel, recognized as one of the world’s engineering wonders is featured in a color photograph on the map cover. The facility, operated by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission, serves traffic using Virginia’s Arterial 13. As in past years, the new highway map shows many of the State’s scenic, recreational and historic attractions on one side, while including up-to-date information about highways for motorists on the other side. Some 300 changes were made to update the map. The map shows interstate routes in green, arterial and other US numbered primary highways in red, and state numbered primary and major secondary routes in gray. The map is available upon request and without charge.
