'Upgrading’ roads
THE PEOPLE from Laurel Mills were right. The old iron truss bridge should be kept— patched up, if necessary — and for a number of reasons. .Highway engineers always have an answer for such pleas, but sometimes we wish they wouldn’t even try. We wish they’d listen to the people, instead. It’d be a welcome change, and it might even make for better driving conditions.
Take the old one-way iron truss bridge in question, for example. Drivers have to exercise extreme caution in negotiating it. They have to slow down, even stop, and on occasion, be courteous enough to let the other guy go through first.
Some people in the neighborhood think this is desirable. Drivers going slow and carefully negotiating a tight squeeze add up to a safe condition for everybody — themselves and youngsters in the area.
