In less than two months about 1,500 young people just graduated from Virginia colleges will be ready for jobs. For most of them, finding a good job will be a competitive, time-consuming and, in some cases, futile effort.
The job market for these young people will be tight, according to college placement officials. On-campus recruitment by large companies has dropped off sharply from the ‘60’s when students were scouted and courted for jobs the way high school athletes were sought by the big colleges. Today, graduating seniors, rather than being sought, are seeking jobs and many times must accept work in fields not related to their degrees. . .
