Don’t be a Scrooge on good lighting in the laundry area. A combination of overhead fixtures and recessed lighting over work areas is best. You’ll need good lighting to check clothing for stains and for reading the instructions. It also saves your eyesight.
For homes with a great deal of space an ideal laundry center would be a separate room and would include besides the laundry equipment, a sink, countertops for sorting, cabinets, an ironing center, a built-in sewing machine and space for sewing accessories.
No matter which laundry layout is created, there are certain installation requirements that have to be considered. Plumbing and draining is needed for the washer.
The washer will also need a 115-volt electrical connections. There is no basic difference to the performance of electric or gas dryers so relative purchase prices and operating costs determine which you should choose.
A 230-volt line must be installed for the majority of electric dryers. Gas dryers run on 115 volts but need a gas line.
