SUPERVISOR Richard Latham said he agreed with the speakers who had said that “dollars spent don’t equal quality education.”But Latham said he also sympathized with Montague’s comment that many of the school board’s actions are circumscribed by the General Assembly.
Boyd Brown of Amissville said he feels education “is a fine thing; you couldn’t run the country without it. But while you’re getting an education, you must stop to think what Rappahannock’s going into.
“I don’t blame the teachers for getting all you can, but has Rappahannock County ever stopped to think, where are we going with taxes?” Brown said. At 71 years old, Brown said, “I understand what it takes to have something, but now, whatever you get, it goes in taxes.” Brown said, “Instead of raising taxes, you ought to be lowering them.”
