The writer seems not to know that the Virginia State Constitution has a provision prohibiting state legislation from discriminating with respect to sex. Is this because she hasn’t heard of any harm this provision has brought to the women of Virginia?
There is nothing about ERA which would take legal protection from anyone—it would only broaden it to both sexes—male and female.
With regard to women and the armed forces, ERA will take nothing away from women. If one realistically assesses the effects of future wars on women and families, it will be immediately recalled that some of the most tragic victims of the Civil War were the women and children of the South.
