Dennis’ efforts at interesting others in donating easements appear to be getting results. If plans proceed according to schedule, Rappahannock will match a tenth of the property currently in scenic easements within the next few months. Between the Raneys, the Parsons and the Birds, 700 acres will become permanently zoned open space.
Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Raney who own and operate Farfelu Winery outside of Flint Hill plan on donating an easement that will prevent subdivision development but allow them to continue to operate and expand their vineyards. Lou Raney’s prime objective in granting an easement is “to keep the Rappahannock River as beautiful as it is in its natural state, at least along the Raney’s mile ‘of riverfront acreage. Her husband’s major concern, according to Mrs. Raney, is to protect the vineyards where the family has spent untold hours, planting and nurturing grape vines.
