Mrs. Mary Jane Estes James of Amissville died Thursday, January 12, 1978, in Fauquier Hospital, W arrenton following a long illness. Services were conducted Monday at the Amissville Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Stirman and the Rev. Harold Carder with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mrs. James, 70, was a native of Rappahannock County. She was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Mida Lydia Smith Estes: her husband. Norvel C. James, died qp December, 1977.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Richard Suter of Radford, Mrs. John Geer, Jr., Mrs. Allen Blair, Mrs. Helen Donovan, and Miss Thelma James, all of Charlottesville; seven sons, Julian James and William James of Culpeper, David James of Flint Hill, Donald James of Amissville, John James of Earlysville, Jack James of Viewtown, and Elmer James of Manassas; IS grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond Priest of Waldorf, Md., Mrs. Eggbert Woodward of Amissville and Mrs. Calvin Priest of Lanham, Md.; and one brother, Edward Estes of Castleton.
Active pallbearers were Rudolph Woodward, Nelson Burner, Stanley Settle, Graham Hackley, Carson Estes, Tom Tear, Darrell Cloud, Silas O’Bannon, Claude Carter, Adolph Estes, Theodore Barron, and Richard Latham.
Payton
Funeral services for William Payton of Washington were held Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Elder Carroll Newman. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Washington.
Mr. Payton, 57, died Wednesday, January 11, 1978, at Warren Memorial Hospital. A native of Fauquier County, he had lived in Rappahannock County for seven years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie G. Payton; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Davenport of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren; seven brothers and four sisters.
