newcomers have escaped here from someplace else. We’ve escaped to Rappahannock in large part because the natives have kept a superb landscape from being despoiled. But, we have also escaped from something—and I hope Rappahannock natives can understand that we newcomers don’t want the “something” to follow us here, which is why we speak the way we do over at the courthouse.
I’m sure that all of us, native and newcomer alike, will keep speaking at the courthouse. I hope we’ll all respect the fact that different backgrounds can generate different perceptions of issues which are vitally important to Rappahannock’s future.
If we must disagree, I urge that we do so in constructive rather than divisive fashion, so that we may together offer useful guidance to our local officials.
