A member of the audience asked if a list of the questions asked by Miss Snead in her survey were written and if the poll included a specific question on the slide.
Moore’s attorney interjected that a list of the questions used in the survey were on file with the BZA and Admiral Gardiner suggested that anyone interested in reviewing the questions stop by the Zoning office (which, incidently, is open only one day a week).
Juanita Miko commented that she’d probably been marked down as favorable to the ski area’s reopening in the basis of Miss Snead’s poll. She maintained that the questions included in the survey were not controversial and didn’t accurately reflect public sentiment.
Mrs. Lois Snead followed her daughter’s testimony. She stated that the ski area would pull in customers who would spend money at other county businesses. If the ski area managers “can't get what they want from us, they’ll have to let the land go,” continued Mrs. Snead. This would result in the property being carved up into 25-acre lots with an additional burden on the county school capacity while the Harris Hollow Road would still be congested from residential development.
Natives On Trial “I feel like the natives and old timers are on trial here tonight,” she said. In answer to what Mrs. Snead viewed as allegations that natives had not run the county well, she stated that “we must not have done a bad job” since all the newcomers had been attracted enough by Rappahannock to ptove in.
