I am frightened at statements against *the right of “newcomers” to voice their opinions. Many “newcomers” support this county by working in its public schools, supporting local businesses, and participating in county activities.
Those opposing the decision for the ski area, (and they number “oldtimers” as well as “newcomers”), are not opposed to the skiing as such. They are against the far-reaching and uncontrolled side effects that the ski area development could produce: a huge traffic overload, polluted streams, and the noise that accompanies amusement park rides, such as the Alpine Ski Slide.
As a “newcomer" planning to settle in Rappahannock County, I am concerned about its future. 1 hope that every precaution is taken to preserve the county’s natural beauty and tranquility—two of its most valuable resources.
