In a split vote at last Thursday’s meeting of the board of supervisors, Rappahannock County finally bowed to state law and gave up the dubious distinction of being the only jurisdiction in Virginia without a building inspector.
With H. B. Wood opposed, the supervisors voted to set up a department of building inspection and hire a building official to work two days per week at $9 per hour. The cost of the department, including the official’s salary, secretarial help, travel, training, office expenses and supplies, is expected to be offset by inspection fees.
