“At a recent meeting of all postmasters of the Culpeper Section Center I was the one with the longest tenure, 39 years,” said Cannon. “That /should be long enough. And guess what! I’ll be replaced by a woman, my wife, who has been the assistant for some 30 years. She will be the officer in charge for the present,” he concluded “That makes the ladies 100 per cent!”
Ray Cannon is married to the former Ruby Stringfellow of Culpeper and they have three children, Ann Powell of New Hampshire, James Cannon of Castleton and Donna Cannon; a student at James Madison University, Harrisonburg. Ray was instrumental in the organization of the Castleton Fire Department and is a past president.
Cannon raises registered Angus cattle with his grassland farming and has breeding stock. He is a participant with his El Rancho Grande herd in the BC1A Performance testing and had the first four get-ofsires at the bull testing station.
“I’m cutting down some on the farm activities,” says Cannon. “I’m not as young as I once was and dependable farm help is difficult to come by. Maybe I’ll travel a little,” he concluded. M A
