Switch To Computers
Jerry Campbell, representative from a computer company, presented the supervisors with several proposals for computerizing the county’s tax records and the new records from the reassessment.
Campbell told the board that processing all the land parcels and personal property onto a computer will cost $2,757.81 with half the expense reimbursed by the Compensation Board. Computerizing the tax tickets will run $465, again with half paid by the Compensation Board.
Cost of printing the reassessment notices that must go out to all landowners, making any changes in the 'figures following the required public hearing, printing an update for the supervisors and then printing the final assessment book will cost $2,577, according to Campbell.
He noted that his compny is currently working on reassessment for eight Virginia counties. Campbell added that he can have the notices back to the supervisors five days after his company gets all the information. Actual printing of the reassessment book takes only a half day, he said, as compared to the three months of typing time now required under the county's current system.
Scoggin added that a switch to computer will eliminate the need for extra secretarial help during the reassessment.
