A 1980 Ford driven by Jerry C. Pullen, 19, of Washington burst into flames and was demolished when it was wrecked on Fodderstack Road just out of Washington about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Trooper John Thomas.
The vehicle was owned by Henry Atkins Ford in Culpeper, and leased by Susan Baldwin Jenkins of Washington, said the officer.
Pullen, travelling toward Flint Hill, topped a hill, went off the right shoulder of the road for 155 feet, struck a culvert and became airborne then struck a locust tree about six feet up the trunk, Thomas said.
Pullen was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital by Washington Rescue Sqbad with cuts and lacerations. Washington Fire Company also responded to the fire. Charges are pending said Trooper Thomas.
