Property Rights Violated
“I know a lot of people think these ordinances would restrict the right to bear arms,” said Bob Dennis, landowner on Route 637 in Wakefield District. "I look at it differently,” he said, adding that the National Rifle Association and other hunting organizations shared his view point. This past season, he said, hunters had fired from the road at a deer standing directly in front of a house on his posted property. If the hunters had missed the deer, the bullet would have hit the house or possibly one of its occupants, Dennis said. “Shooting from the road imposes on our rights to use our property safely,” he concluded, presenting Wakefield supervisor Hubert Gilkey with a stack of letters in support of the proposed ordinances.
