Of 135 school systems in Virginia, 82 pay their starting teachers more than Rappahannock, and 123 pay their most experienced teachers more than Rappahannock County.
The table included with this letter provides the actual figures for the current salary of teachers in Rappahannock. The number of teachers at each level of the pay scale is also included. Proposed salary figures for budget Plan A and Plan B are given. Plan C is a scale being suggested by the teachers.
Dr. Bloomer has submitted Plan A in his basic budget and Plan B in his recommended budget. The teachers have submitted an alternative Plan C in order to encourage good teachers to stay in Rappahannock. Plan C could influence experienced teachers (who are considering leaving,) to stay and would show good faith on the part of the School Board.
