Saturday’s downpour did little to alleviate the water shortage currently faced by the town of Washington. “We’re holding our own,” said mayor Newbill Miller on Tuesday, “but the two inches of rain we had over the weekend didn’t raise ground water levels although it did add to surface water.”
He emphasized that the town is still in a “cautionary situation” and asked water system users to continue their conservation efforts. According to the mayor, no leaks have been found yet in •he water lines.
“This is the worst drought we’ve had since I can remember, at least as far as ground water is concerned,” Miller concluded.
