Literature supplied by the association notes that rescue dogs air scent and therefore may be used at any time during a search, including during or after rain or snow or after an extended time lapse of days or weeks. They are reported to be highly effective for night operations and may be used in areas already searched to ensure thoroughness.
The dogs work well in conjunction with other search methods, according to the association, making it unnecessary to restrict grid searchers prior to use of the rescue dogs.
