Russian market tor wheat, corn and other grains at first brought protests from farmers. But many farmers also supported the president’s action.
Carter did not overlook the farmers’ concerns after _he initiated the embargo. In fact, he may have found a better market for American grains —China. The most populous nation in the world certainly will need the most grain. To secure a trade agreement with such a powerful nation, especially one with which even diplomatic relations had been nil for so long, is no small feat.
Farmers should be thankful to have a president with an agricultural background.
Although Carter has embarked on a program to make the U. S. less dependent on foreign fuels—by promoting the use of coal, solar energy and gasohol—he has not discarded the past achievements of environmentalists to open the door for higher domestic fuel production. Carter has maintained his pledge to help preserve natural resources and to help clean up the environment
Because of the present administration’s consistent support of human rights, of domestic energy products production and of a safe, clean environment, vote Democratic. Vote for Jimmy Carter.
