It was around that time many of the customs were brought here by Irish immigrants, some of which are still much a part of today’s Halloween ritual. Take the jack-o-lantern, for example. Legend has it that an Irishman named lack died but was not allowed to enter heaven because he had been a miser. Later, he was expelled from hell for playing tricks on the devil. Jack was then condemned to walk the earth forever with a lantern until Judgement Day.
