responsibilities as a mother and right now, her family comes first. "Sometimes during the day I can squeeze in a few hours painting—if the children cooperate,” she laughed. “Most of the time, it has to be at night when they’re asleep." Seven year old Ryan is in school but Courtney, the Welch’s three* year-old daughter, is very much underfoot, demanding “Hey this” and “Hey that” from mother and strangers alike. “The other day, she stuck a pin in a tube of paint—got it all over the place!” Geneva recalled, tousling her daughter’s hair.

Watching her mother paint has given Courtney the artistic bug. The three-year-old likes most to go on assignment with Mom to Maymount where park personnel let her give a bottle to a baby groundhog but any art related outing will do. “Whe she plays with her dollies, she pretends she’s taking them to an art show,” Geneva reported with a sigh and a shake of her head.
