The statewide season for rabbit began on November 10 and concludes January 31, 1981 with a bag limit of six (6) per day, 75 per license year. Grouse hunting began on November 10 and runs through January 31, 1981 with a bag limit of two (2) per day, and ten (10) per license year.

Non-migratory game birds (grouse, pheasants, bobwhite quail and turkey), game animals (bear, bobcat, deer, elk, fox, rabbit and squirrel) and furbearing animals (beaver, mink, muskrat, otter, raccoon and opossum) may ONLY be taken in accordance with state laws and Commission regulations, many of which are summarized in the Summary of Virginia Game Laws. Migratory game birds (doves, ducks, brant, geese, swan, coot, gallinules, sora and other rails, snipe and woodcock) may ONLY be taken in accordance with supplementary regulations published prior to the open season on these species.
