Firemen battling the flames could have been injured. An itinerant farm laborer or drifter could have been asleep amidst the giant bales of hay.
In lighting his match, the arsonist gave no thought to the dangers posed to others. In lighting that match, he gave up any claim on the loyalties of friends and family members who know the identity of the culprit.
Rappahannock deputies have been joined by special arson investigators from the state police on the case but even with this extra assistance, they need the cooperation of the community. We urge any individual who thinks they may have a clue to the person or persons behind this reprehensible crime to contact the sheriff’s department. The identity of anyone supplying information will be kept strictly confidential.
