Geneva paints for love of animals rather than money. "If money was the most important aspect, I’d do barns. They’re easier and everybody buys barns. They’re always big sellers. But ever since I finished the Maymount signage,. I’ve become almost obsessed with wild animals. It’s much more difficult to put life into something that’s breathing, to make the eyes wet, to have their coats messed up and to show the natural flaws.’’
Difficult, yes. But also rewarding as is evident in the pride Geneva takes in her work. She feels, however, that she’s still on an up hill climb to the peak of her talents, even though she has three showings of her paintings and etchings going on simultaneously in Richmond this week. “I have all kinds of ideas but I’m not going full force yet,” she said. “It takes just as much time to promote yourself as to paint.”
