According to preliminary figures, Rappahannock's new 100 percent fair market value assessment has skyrocketed the worth of taxable property in the county.
Total value on land and buildings is set at $245,418,360, a staggering 2115 percent increase over the current discounted assessment of $11,582,821.
While total values increased by 21 times, a breakdown shows that the increase in value of land outstripped the hike in value of buildings. Under the old discounted values, the county's total taxable land area was assessed at $5,430,390. At 100 percent fair market assessment, taxable land is appraised at $146,839,160, an increase of 2718 percent.
