In addition, he said, “the open space beauty” of the 50 acre parcel will best be preserved by holding development to a small area as indicated in the permit application.

A letter from Ray Cannon, landowner with property to the south and west, wrote the BZA that he favored issuance of the permit and described the project as “interesting" and "an asset to the community."

“Did he sell you the land?” asked BZA chairman Josef Gardiner.

“No," Gowell replied, adding that the individuals from whom they’d purchased the property still owned tracts to the north and south. He said they'd been sent a letter, detailing plans tor the three-family residence. “We haven’t received an answer so I assume they don't oppose it."

Included with maps and plans provided the BZA was a copy of the driveway entry permit issued by the State Highway Department. Gowell reported that former county engineer Fanning Baumgardner was still conducting tests to Find the best possible drainfield site so the septic location was not yet fixed. “He felt there was no question of finding an adequate site." Gowell noted.

“Do you have any plans for passing this on to your heirs?" asked Gardiner, raising the possibility that the multi-family residence could be used in the future for housing for families with children.
