“Something has got to be done or we're going to bleed ourselves to death." remarked Robert Eastham at the February 10 meeting of the Rappahannock school board in reaction to a $1,300 bill for furnace repairs in January.
“It goes on and on. We have furnace repairs every single month." said Eastham. suggesting that "something is wrong" with the continual breakdowns that have plagued the school heating systems, particularly at RCHS.
"Could this be avoided with the maintenance position that was eliminated from last year's budget?" asked Nancy Reeve.
Superintendent William Bloomer replied that filling the position of maintenance supervisor as he had recommended could possibly have avoided the need for expensive furnace repairs. The individual hired as maintenance supervisor could have received special training on how to repair the heating system from a factory representative, according to the superintendent.
