Step 3 - When Your Power Is Off When your power is off, leave one light switch in the “on position so that you’ll know when your electric service is restored. Turn off any major appliances which you may have been using when power was interrupted. Do not open refrigerator or freezer doors while power is off. Food will keep for up to two days if the doors are kept closed.
